Resources & Support -
Starting a New Group
There's a lot to consider when setting up a new group/organisation.
All sorts of questions need to be addressed, such as:
- What is the best structure for our group?
- Who else do we need to involve?
- What governing document do we need?
- Should we open a bank account straight away?
Before you do any of the above it is advisable that you check that there are no other groups/organisations which you could not join with. There are various ways to check, including:
- VAST – Stoke on Trent – local groups in and around Stoke on Trent
- North Staffordshire Racial Equality Council – local minority groups
- The Saltbox – Local faith based initiatives
- SCIO (Staffordshire Consortium of Infrastructure Organisations) – groups around Staffordshire
- Charity Commission – for registered charities
We have a series of Good Practice Guides which are aimed at new groups.
